Agility Classes!

Prerequisite:  Dogs must have a good recall, sit and stay command.  It is highly recommended that you successfully complete a Beginner Obedience Class to enroll in our agility classes or have instructor permission.

Dogs must be up-to-date on Rabies vaccine.

No Aggressive dogs

Discounts Offered

  • One discount only per session:
  • $10 discount for current SUDS member
  • $10 discount for Student alumni.  Applies only for the same dog to take the next session and next level class. One time offer, cannot be combined with any other discounts
  • Rescue:  1/2 price for Dogs adopted from a shelter or rescue organization within the last 6 months.  Must show proof of rescue the day of registration. 
  • Is your dog not quite one year old yet?   We are now offering an ‘audit’ spot for beginner agility classes.   Watch and learn some basic foundation skills that you can practice at home.   Free for SUDS members and $5/class for nonmembers.  

*Note:  Adopted dogs must have been in their new home for at least 4 weeks prior to the start of class.  Dogs and new owners need time to bond before starting a training program.

Foundation for Agility - 6 weeks

Class Description

You can’t build a house on sand, it needs a good foundation. The same with agility. This class will help you and your dog communicate and work together as a team. The first class will teach groundwork in preparation for getting on the equipment. Classes are designed to safely introduce all the obstacles and will also introduce handling skills.

Beginning Agility - 6 weeks

Class Description

This class will be for the introduction of agility which will provide both handler and dog the fundamentals of each apparatus to be exercised correctly and safely.  At the end of this class each will have a good understanding of the sport and have a good foundation to continue in Agility- even to the competition level!

Intermediate Agility - 6 weeks

Pre-Requisites

  • Dogs must be at least one (1) year old
  • Dogs must have a good recall, sit, down and stay command
  • Dogs should be comfortable on at least low height contacts, and have been introduced to weave poles.
  • It is highly recommended that you have successfully completed a Beginning Agility Class to or have instructor permission to enroll

Class Description

Intermediate Agility will expand on what you and your dog have learned in a Beginning Agility or Agility I class.  More new and fun obstacles will be introduced as well as flat work exercises.  The goal for your dog is to be able to work the obstacles with skill and confidence.  Handlers will be introduced to more handling skills, games to play at home with their dog, and encouraged to consider competition.  The goal is to Have Fun!

Advanced Agility - 6 weeks

  • Ability to perform all obstacles off-leash
  • Dogs should be comfortable on full height contacts, and have a solid beginning with weave poles.
  • It is highly recommended that you have successfully completed an Intermediate or Agility II Class

Class Description

Advanced Agility Class will expand on what you and your dog have learned in an Intermediate or Agility II class.   The goal for you and your dog is to increase your communication skills with each other, and be able to maneuver through obstacles with skill and confidence.  Handlers will be introduced to more handling skills, and finding better ways to communicate with your dog. Agility organizations and agility trial rules will be introduced.  The goal as always, is to Have Fun and Learn with your dog! Hopefully you too will consider competing in agility trials with your dog.

AGILITY HANDLING TECHNIQUES

Pre-Requisites

Dogs must be proficient on all obstacles (excluding weave poles) to include contacts, and have good wait and recall commands. Prior completion of Beginning and Intermediate Agility classes is recommended.

Class Description

This class will teach the basics of distance handling, the whys and hows of sending your dog through portions of the agility course ahead of you.   We will also work on front crosses, rear crosses and blind crosses.   Tips for running a smooth course using handler positioning, and more verbal cues.   Individual instruction consistent with each dog’s ability and level.

Drop-in Agility Class

Class Description

This class will be for the beginner/intermediate dogs who know the obstacles and just want to further their training. We will be working on contacts, jumps, short sequences, etc. Attendees need not come every week – the punch card buys 6 weeks, over a 9-week period.
